Toon has more than twenty years of experience in the forestry and education sectors, the majority of which in training and capacity development projects and programs.
He holds an MSc. in Education for Sustainability, is an accredited science teacher, and has a qualification in Environmental Studies. Originally from Belgium where he worked as a science teacher, and environmental education coordinator, Toon has worked in the education and forestry sectors in Southeast Asia for thirteen years. He recently moved to East Africa where he works as a consultant. He worked for eight years in Vietnam before joining RECOFTC – The Center for People and Forests in 2009. Since his move to Africa he continues to work on capacity development for the forestry sector, including on capacity development needs assessment, and training design.
